<p>These are cool! Dubbed &#8220;TruFocals&#8221; by their inventor, Stephen Kurtin, these glasses allow the wearer to change the focus on the fly. They work by adjusting the amount of a thin layer of clear fluid that sits between two traditional lenses. As almost all people over 40 are affected by presbyopia (otherwise known as near-sightedness), TruFocals could be a hit, even at $895 each.</p>
<p>Here is Mr. Kurtin giving a demonstration:</p>
<p><object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" width="425" height="344" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /><param name="src" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/IR37C8j0eDU&amp;hl=en&amp;fs=1&amp;" /><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /><embed type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="344" src="http://www.youtube.com/v/IR37C8j0eDU&amp;hl=en&amp;fs=1&amp;" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object></p>
<p>The biggest downside we can see is the requirement that the lenses be perfectly round in order to work correct, and this shape may not look good on everyone (unless you&#8217;re going for the Harry Potter look). But who knows? People might be willing to trade looks for convenience, especially if they plan on using the pair to work at their desk or around the house.</p>
