3D Glasses Domination
Lately everyone (including us!) is going crazy for 3D glasses… and why not? They are a fun, different way to watch movies at theaters and even at home. Here’s a recap of some recent goings-on in the 3D glasses world.
- Nina Shen Rastogi recently posted eco-friendly, germaphobe-enemy info on how theaters recycle and clean (or don’t, ewe!) 3D glasses. I was mostly intrigued but slightly disturbed, and I am definitely now resolved to ask the theaters I attend how they clean their glasses (because the “wipe it with a towel” job does NOT sound sufficient to me).
- A tribute to the late Michael Jackson is going to be aired this weekend on the Grammys–of course, in 3D. It is actually a mini-movie Jackson created for “Earth Song,” which he was going to show during his concerts. Don’t miss it; You can pick up a free pair of 3D glasses at select stores (check your area!).
- “Avatar” has officially broken the record for highest-grossing film. No surprise there for me. I saw it. I loved it. I am hoping to see it again (at least once!) in theaters because the graphics are that cool (and I dig a good love story). And in Awe of Cameron: in its sixth week in the box office, James Cameron’s “Avatar” beat out Jame’s Cameron’s “Titanic,” which has held the record for the past 13 years. Pretty impressive, Cameron. You really are the “King of the World.” (I know, I know, that was lame. I just couldn’t resist!)
Last, but certainly not least…
- There is some unofficial buzz that the final two Harry Potter movies (Deathly Hallows parts 1 and 2) are going to be in 3D. Execs have not confirmed the rumor, but it looks like it has some solid foundation. As a Harry Potter lover (his glasses are iconic; the books rock; and the movies are fun and entertaining!) Warner Brother’s “Clash of the Titans” is also rumored to be converting to 3D.
There you have it! Your recap of a few things 3D…. more, I’m sure, to come, since the 3D craze is going strong.
