Easing Children’s Fears of the Big, Bad Eye Doctor

Just Eyewear now offers childrens’ eyewear (woohoo, kids!), and we take a keen interest in kids who wear eyeglasses. (Let’s be honest. We take an interest in EVERYTHING to do with eyeglasses! Maybe you’ve noticed…?)

Going to the eye doctor as a kid may be a bit scary, as are many new experiences for children. But kids need not fear the “monster”-like eye exam machines or intimidating doctors. Sites like the awesome Little Four Eyes provide resources dedicated to making kids feel comfortable at their eye exams.

Among the sites Little Four Eyes lists are Nick Jr.’s “Going to the Eye Doctor,” which has coloring pages, games, stickers, parent tips, and more. There’s nothing like Dora the Explorer to tell the littlest eye patient that everything will be okay!

Thanks to Little Four Eyes for helping our little ones “see” the eye doctor as a fun, safe place to be. (And forgive my bad pun. I just couldn’t help myself.)

For a more grown-up discussion on varied aspects of children’s eye exams, check out All About Vision’s “Eye Exams for Children.” It’s a great article covering pretty much everything a caregiver needs to know about children’s eye exams.

I am lucky enough to say that I have never real dealt with the eye doctor! Those resources should help those children that have that fear.

Awesome looking blog by the way!

Kids are the hardest patients to deal with when it comes to going to the doctor. Some scream and whine, but it is a good thing that there are techniques to allay their fears. These would allow for a more productive and harmonious check up.
