Do you recommend I get thin and light lenses?

If your prescription's sphere measurements are under +2.00 or under -2.00, and you don't have a cylinder measurement or it's below +1.50 or -1.50, then, while they will be lighter and not weigh as much, the thin and light lenses will not be much thinner than the standard plastic lenses in our Basic package.

If your prescription's sphere measurements are over +2.00 or over -2.00, or if you have a cylinder measurement over +1.50 or under -1.50, we recommend that you get one of the packages with thin and light lenses, as you will notice a big difference in both weight and edge thickness.

If your prescription's sphere measurements are over +5.00 or over -6.00, or if you have a cylinder measurement over +2.75 or under -2.75, we recommend that you get the Premium package with our thinnest and lightest lenses, especially if you have chosen a rimless or semi-rimless frame.

What is anti-reflective coating? Do you recommend it?

Anti-reflective coating increases the light transmission through a lens by reducing reflections and glare. It is great for driving at night, working on a computer screen when there is overhead lighting, and of course for being photographed so people can actually see your eyes!

We are asked all the time whether getting anti-reflective coating is worth it. The answer is yes. While other upgrades like thinner lenses or Transitions lenses for sunglasses are more a matter of personal preference, every pair of eyeglasses can benefit from anti-reflective coating.

What are your lenses made of?

Our Basic package includes standard plastic lenses (also called CR-39). These lenses have an index of refraction of 1.49. Our Select and Select+ packages include polycarbonate lenses. They have an index of refraction of 1.59. Our Premium package includes high index plastic lenses, with an index of refraction of 1.67.

We currently do not offer 1.74 lenses because they have poorer quality optics than 1.67 without being that much thinner. We also do not offer glass lenses because they are more expensive and can shatter, unlike plastic and polycarbonate lenses.

It says "pl" in the Cylinder column. What does that mean?

"sph" stands for Sphere, and it just means you don't have any astigmatism in that eye. Just leave the Cylinder and Axis fields blank.

What do I do if there are no decimals in my prescription?

Sometimes optometrists will write a prescription without decimal places. So, instead of writing -1.00 for the Sphere, they will write -100. All you need to do is add the decimals back in.

Note:The Axis measurement does not have any decimal places. It is a number between 1 and 180, and represents the angle of the curve for the Cylinder measurement. If you don't have an Axis measurement, don't worry - it's only used for prescriptions with astigmatism.

What is the "Add" measurement?

The "Add" measurement is used only for bifocal and progressive lenses. It is the power of the reading area. Sometimes it is labeled "N.V." or "Near Vision" or "Reading Addition", and is often written below the other numbers on the prescription form.

If you do have an "Add" measurement, it will be a positive number somewhere between +0.75 and +3.75 and is almost always the same for both eyes.

My prescription is higher than what I can enter in the form. Can you make it?

Unfortunately, if your prescription is stronger than what you can enter on the form, we cannot make your glasses. This is because when prescriptions are that strong, there are additional measurements that need to be taken in person to properly make your glasses, particularly if you're wearing a progressive lens.

I'm having trouble entering my prescription. Can I send it to you?

Sure, we'd be happy to read it for you. Just leave all of the prescription fields blank, and then after you place your order send your prescription to us.
